YEP SON, WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND HE IS US. —Quote from Walt Kelly’s Pogo comic strip commemorating the first Earth Day in 1971.
This comic strip is more relevant than ever. Forty-one years later governments still favour business over the environment. Environmental groups are viewed as the enemy of government and business. Oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, the Alberta tar sands, or the Canadian government trying to curtail proper environmental review for industrial projects and many other examples. We have not learned much since 1971 and the first Earth Day. The environment should be in better shape than it is. Sadly we are still destroying our planet. Politicians still disregard the environment when the choice is between saving the environment or corporations being able to make billions of dollars. Its not the environment, stupid, its the almighty dollar to badly misquote Bill Clinton.  I wish citizens would wake up and vote out any politician allowing our planet to be destroyed.
Pogo is one of my all time favourite comic strips.  One recurring theme I loved was when Pogo panicked when he discovered that Friday the 13th fell on a Wednesday that month.

Its has been a while since I have had to use our transit, several years to be exact. Since our car was rear-ended while I was stopped in rush hour traffic I am using public transit for a few days. Fortunately, even though the car that hit my car made a loud bang, not much damage was done to our car. There is some damage to the bumper cover (a small hole on the bumper where the car was hit). Wow it will be over $1000. dollars to replace the bumper cover, which thank goodness is totally covered by my insurance including the dedutable.
Now back to ridding public transit. There have been a lot of improvements since I last rode the bus. There is a good webpage to find  information on routes and the times buses reach your bus stop, GPS on the bus announces the streets on a display.
With all the improvements how did the designers seriously miss the mark when they designed the seats. They used to be almost as comfortable as good living room furniture. Now the seats are hard and molded to the shape of a butt, not a normal butt, but one smaller than the average adult butt. I am not that big, but still I was forced to endure a sharp poking into my gluttious maximus were my seat ended and the next seat began.
If you regularly ride transit, how do you do it, especially if you are larger than average or even supersize?
